This is the first question we resolve on an Englewood estimate, and it is not always obvious from the address. A 34223 or 34224 zip code does not settle it. Neither does the mailing address.

Salt is continuous and unavoidable. Gulf-side properties get the worst of it, but the bay side is not much better. Anything that can corrode will. Stainless fasteners are mandatory here in practice, and we do not quote an island cage without them.

Wind exposure is at its highest. There is nothing between an island structure and open Gulf. Wind load requirements step up accordingly, and that changes post spacing, beam sizing and anchoring rather than just the screen you choose.

Coastal construction rules can apply. Properties near the Gulf may fall under coastal construction setback requirements that constrain what can be built and where. Worth surfacing at the design stage rather than after drawings are submitted.

An island cage genuinely costs more to build correctly. There is no version where cutting the hardware specification saves money over the life of the structure.

The Mainland Side

Away from the key, Englewood behaves like the rest of this coastline. The older sections around Englewood East and along the 776 corridor have a large stock of enclosures in the 15 to 25 year range, and most of the work is rescreening and frame repair rather than new construction.

The recurring problem is the same one we see across Charlotte and south Sarasota counties: sound aluminum with failing screws. Caught early it is a repair. Left alone, the connections loosen, the frame starts to move, and it becomes a rebuild.
